UNIVERSITY CLINIC FOR RADIOLOGY AND NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Microtherapy

Microtherapy refers to minimally invasive interventions for the treatment of various diseases (e.g. tumor therapy) which are performed under image control by computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

In this way, the interior of the body is first visualized with the aid of the most modern diagnostics in order to then introduce the finest tools under real-time imaging via access through the skin (corresponding to a puncture) or via the vascular system and carry out targeted and local treatments of the focus of the disease.

These minimally invasive procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia and the administration of analgesics and sedatives are thus generally well tolerated.

Microtherapy options have grown rapidly in recent years with the tremendous advances in imaging, with the potential to provide alternatives and/or adjuncts to conventional surgical procedures.

It is important to note here that the interventions are generally not to be considered in isolation, but are integrated into holistic, interdisciplinary concepts.

Therefore, in our hospital, individual cases are discussed in appropriate conferences on an interdisciplinary basis (e.g., University Colorectal Cancer Center, GastroCenter, Breast Center, Vascular Center).
